CHH Establishes New Temporary Visitor Guidelines
As H1N1 FLU Virus Prevention 

CHH will be restricting visitors and volunteers aged 18 and younger and visitors with flu symptoms beginning Wednesday, October 28, 2009. Restrictions apply to all visitors and volunteers aged 18 or younger and any visitor that displays cough, sore throat, Chills, runny nose, body aches, or a fever of 100 degrees or more.



 

Northwest CT Cancer Care Support Group Seeking New Members

Torrington’s Center for Cancer Care is seeking new participants for its Northwest Connecticut Cancer Support group. Designed for cancer patients and their families, the group meets at The Center For Cancer Care, 200 Kennedy Drive, Torrington. For more information or to join the group, call 489-6718.



 
Tour of the Litchfield Hills Donate $88,000 to Center For Cancer Care Fund 

The northwest corner’s 6th Annual “Tour of the Litchfield Hills” Cycling Tour held August 2nd recently donated $88,000 raised at this year’s event to The Center for Cancer Care Fund, Inc., which provides financial assistance and community resources to help with the care, treatment, education and prevention of cancer for residents in Northwest Connecticut. Tour Co-Chairs presented the Board of Directors of The Center for Cancer Care Fund, Inc. with a check at a ceremony on October 14th.

6th Annual “Bunco for Breast Cancer” Fundraiser
To Benefit Pink Rose Breast Cancer Fund

The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital invites area women of all ages to the 6th Annual “Bunco For Breast Cancer”, a Ladies Night Out fundraiser on Friday, November 6. The event will be held at the Litchfield Community Center, 421 Bantam Road (Rt. 202) beginning at 6:00 p.m. Come roll the dice to help uninsured and low income women with the cost of diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer while trying your luck with this hilarious dice rolling game.

Diabetes Talk Planned During
National Diabetes Awareness Month

Every November, the American Diabetes Association encourages the public to learn more about diabetes and the risks associated with the disease. The American Diabetes Association estimates that nearly 21 million children and adults in the U.S. have diabetes. Diabetes is a serious disease that affects the body's ability to produce or respond properly to insulin, a hormone that allows blood glucose (sugar) to enter the cells of the body and be used for energy. It is the fifth deadliest disease in the U.S. and it has no cure. The prevalence of diabetes is at least 2-4 times higher among ethnic minorities and the risk for diabetes also increases with age.

Cancer Clinical Trials Discussion to be held November 19th

Oncologist Debra Brandt, D.O., of Connecticut Oncology and Hematology, will be presenting a lecture entitled “Learn More About Clinical Trials For Cancer Patients” on Thursday, November 19 at 5:30 p.m. at The Center For Cancer Care, 200 Kennedy Drive, Torrington.
