Annual Butterfly Affair Raises $38,000 to Support Center for Cancer Care Fund

The Center for Cancer Care Fund extends its gratitude to the team of business andcommunity volunteers responsible for successfully organizing the Annual Butterfly Affair.  This unique event took place on June 1st at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care, along the Joyce M. Barbieri Trail on Kennedy Drive in Torrington.  Thanks to the hard working committee and generous donors, the event raised $38,000 with 100% donated to the Center for Cancer Care Fund, Inc.  Primary event sponsors included the Torrington Country Club, RJB Contracting, Moscarillo’s Garden Shoppe, JW Salon and Valerie Manor Health Care Center, Dunkin Donuts and the Mazzarelli Family.

Event founder and organizer, Jonathan Nevin comments, “This event provides an opportunity for the entire community to come together to raise awareness and funding for area cancer patients.  It’s a chance to celebrate not only patients but those who have conquered the disease, while remembering those who have lost their courageous battle”.

The highlight of the evening was the release of live butterflies.  This significant and poignant portion of the night began with the reading of “On Wings of Hope” followed by a moment of silence and the release of the butterflies into the evening sky.  Other features of the evening included live music provided courtesy of Steve Dunn and Kevin Wolfe of Accoustic Duo, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and beverages.

All proceeds from the Butterfly Affair have been donated to The Center for Cancer Care Fund, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to patients for emergencies such as food, rent, transportation, utilities, prescriptions and other emergent needs as determined by clinicians and case managers.  The Fund also provides numerous community resources to help with the care, treatment, education and prevention of cancer in the area.
