Charlotte Hungerford Hospital brings together a wide range of resources to help student athletes receive the best sports training and protection from injuries. Through the CHH sponsored Athletic Training Program, area high school students receive support from fully licensed and certified, school based trainers on the field and in the locker room. Trainers offer valuable assistance with exercise, conditioning, and injury prevention techniques. If a minor injury occurs, the trainers provide expert on-field assessments and immediate care, eliminating unnecessary trips to the emergency room or doctor’s office. For more serious injuries, the program offers seamless, often same day referrals to sports injury specialists at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Dr. Keith Penney of The Center For Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and Chief of the CHH Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy is the Program’s Medical Director and reviews all referrals from the program.
