“An Evening of Qigong” Free WorkshopThe Center For Cancer Care Fund, Inc. is presenting a free “An Evening of Qigong” workshop with Luisa de Castro, Certified Qigong and Tai Chi Instructor on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at 5:30 – 7:00 pm at the NW CT Chamber of Commerce, 333 Kennedy Dr., Suite R101, Torrington. Registration requested. Please call 860-489-6718. Join us for an experiential and informational evening to learn about the history and benefits of Qigong. Prior experience is not required. Qigong (cheegong) is a form of meditative exercise to build and restore health and for disease prevention. Qigong combines mental awareness, visualization, breath and slow, gentle movements which can be performed either standing or seated.
The health benefits of Qigong are increasingly being researched and documented around the world. Qigong benefits include: improve respiratory efficiency, reduce stress and anxiety, improve posture, concentration and awareness.
The evening will blend lecture, demonstration and group participation in simple standing and seated movement, suitable for most people. You will learn simple movements to become acquainted with your chi (life force). Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. No yoga mats are required, as movements are performed standing or seated. It is recommended to practice without an empty stomach or following a heavy meal.
Presenter, Luisa de Castro, learned her first tai chi form in 1982 and has been teaching Tai Chi and Qigong in Litchfield County since 2001. She is certified by Dr. Paul Lam of Australia to teach specialized Tai Chi for arthritis, back pain, diabetes and general well-being. Luisa began learning Qigong in the mid 1990s and participated in an intensive month-long training of Zhineng Qigong in China in 2004.
This workshop is made possible through The Center for Cancer Care Fund, Inc. that supports the complementary therapy programs and services offered at The Center for Cancer Care in Torrington, available to patients residing or receiving care in northwest Connecticut.
