The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) has received a donation of four hand-made quilts from “Quilts that Care”, a volunteer group of quilters all of whom have been touched in some way by cancer that formed in March of this past year. The group’s mission is to provide quilts so that cancer patients know that people are always thinking of them and they are not alone – quilts wrapping cancer patients and their families in the warmth of God’s love. The Hospital will distribute the quilts to patients that have a need and would benefit from this specially made gift.
“We are so fortunate to be the recipient of these beautiful handmade quilts that will add extra comfort for the patients we serve.” said the CHH Director of Development Ellen Ebbs.
Edna Wells, a founding member, announced that the group would be making monthly donations of quilts to the hospital as needed to be distributed to patients. The group is also working on a specially designed green themed quilt that will be part of an auction at the CHH Cancer Center’s upcoming annual Saint Patrick’s Day fundraising event in March 2013.
Currently based at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center in Waterbury, the group has had a tremendous response from volunteers and donations of materials and funds to produce the quilts. They plan to expand statewide with satellite locations in various Connecticut towns and to expand the number of health facilities to which they donate quilts. At this time we provide quilts to the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Saint Mary’s VITAS and by request.
