(Torrington, CT) – Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) has completed the replacement of its current hospital beds with new beds designed for patient comfort and safety as well as caregiver ease. A total of 73 new beds were delivered and placed in patient rooms by hospital staff over a three day period at the end of March.
The state-of-the-art beds feature special mattresses that support patients comfortably while protecting them from skin breakdown, which can occur during long periods in a single position. Safety features include an alert system to inform staff of a patient’s position in the bed, thereby preventing sudden movements that can lead to falls. Built-in technology means data can be sent to the hospital’s nurse call system, electronic medical records and other clinical applications.
“These beds will revolutionize nursing from the perspective of patient care and comfort,” said Donna Feinstein, R.N., B.S.N., MM/MS, CHH Director of Nursing.
Feinstein noted that CHH purchased the Hill-Rom CareAssist® ES Medical Surgical Beds because they provide essential and dependable technologies for delivering effective quality care. The beds provide easy-to-use solutions to help caregivers manage patient safety, comfort, and positioning, she added.
Additional features of each bed include an integrated scale to weigh patients, a one-button Dining Chair® position that enables caregivers to place patients in a chair position while the bed remains at a low height, conveniently located side rail controls on both sides of the bed and a built-in bed extender for adding length to the bed.
