(Torrington, CT) – Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) is pleased to announce that Komen for the Cure CT has awarded its Breast Health Navigation Program and Pink Rose Fund a total of $62,000 in funding to support screening and navigation programs aimed at assisting the uninsured and underinsured women of Northwest Connecticut.
“Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Pink Rose Program team would like to thank Komen for the Cure CT for their continued commitment to funding this critical care and screening for the women of Northwest Hills.” said Project Director, Leslie Handelman, R.N.
For the 2014/2015 award, Komen has given the program $25,000 that will be used to provide free screenings and an additional $37,000 to support the staff, supplies and outreach of the navigation team. Charlotte Hungerford Hospital was chosen in 2012 year as the Foundation’s first “Grantee of the Year”, recognized for its Pink Rose Program at its annual volunteer reception where it honors the efforts of the organization’s top sponsors, fundraisers and volunteers from communities across Connecticut.
The CHH Pink Rose Program provides educational outreach and screening funds to assure that the women of Northwest Connecticut have comprehensive, coordinated access to services related to breast cancer prevention and treatment. CHH staff work in conjunction with the CT Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program to ensure that medically underserved women, typically those greater than 40 years old, are being educated about breast cancer and programs that help defer the cost of screening services. The goal of the program is to increase the number of screenings to medically underserved women in Northwest Connecticut by allowing women without resources to receive free breast cancer screening and diagnostic testing when needed.
The hospital’s breast health services bring together the best professionals, technology, and breast healthcare programs for women in a comprehensive network of early detection services and treatment. Services include a breast health navigation program, screening, diagnostic breast imaging, and surgery by a team of highly skilled surgeons and medical professionals, cancer treatment and clinical trials, and state-of-the-art radiation therapy.
