(Torrington, CT) The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Auxiliary is displaying the paintings of local artist Paul Rego through early June 2014 in the hospital’s main lobby hallway, 540 Litchfield Street, Torrington. The public is invited to view the works during regular visiting hours as part of the Auxiliary’s ongoing “Artist of the Month” program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Paul Rego has been a member of the Litchfield County Artists Association for over two decades. He has served as the group’s president for much of that time. He has participated in many of the Association’s group art exhibits and has had solo exhibits. He paints primarily in acrylics and his subjects range from landscapes to still lifes.
Paul has had a life-long interest in the outdoors and art. He began bird watching at a young age and explored the fields and woods of rural southern Wisconsin to view, identify and draw animals and plants. The aesthetics inherent in nature led to pursuits of photography and painting. These interests also led to a career as a wildlife biologist.
The Auxiliary’s “Artist of the Month” program has been featuring paintings, photographs, and artwork each month from local artists for over 25 years. Their over 200 member supporters assist in raising money for the hospital through dues, donations, volunteering at the gift shop, and a variety of events including an annual fall fashion show and luncheon.
