CHH Auxiliary Awards Healthcare Scholarships For 2014

(Torrington, CT)  The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) Auxiliary recently awarded ten $1,000 scholarships for 2014 to local students pursuing an education in the healthcare field. Two additional scholarships, The J. Alfred Fabro, M.D., Scholarship presented by Dr. Isadore Tempkin and The Joseph Curi, M.D., Scholarship funded by Doctor Curi’s children in his memory, were also awarded in the amount of $1,000 each.   

The 2014 Auxiliary Scholarship Recipients are Sabina Busby, Alexa Curtis, Michael Ellis, Morgan Gillette, Elizabeth Harwood, Kelly O’Halloran, Hailey Ross, Rachel Schleker, Brendan Smith and Abigail Zeiner. In addition, Gabrielle Finello received The Joseph Curi Memorial Scholarship and Nicholas LaMothe received of The J. Alfred Fabro Scholarship. 

Elaine Schiavone, Co-Chair of the Scholarship Committee said, “The Auxiliary received more than 50 scholarship applications this year, all from exceptional students who intend to pursue healthcare careers. These students are the caregivers of the future!” 

Nicholas LaMothe, recipient, said, “I am honored to be selected as a recipient of this award and grateful for the Auxiliary’s investment in my future as I pursue a career in medicine.” 

The CHH Auxiliary formed in 1916 has been a significant source of physical and financial aid to the Hospital. The Auxiliary raises money through various fundraising endeavors and, with that money, supports Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Most recently, the Auxiliary has held a Fashion Show benefiting CHH Cardiac Rehab and has also continued to donate proceeds from the Artist of the Month program to support CHH. 

The CHH Auxiliary has over four hundred volunteer members who assist in raising money for CHH and the community through dues, donations, volunteering at the gift shop, and assisting with a variety of events including an annual fashion show and holiday promotions and sales. The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a 109 bed, general acute care hospital located in Torrington, Connecticut, that serves as a regional health care resource for 100,000 residents of Litchfield County and Northwest Connecticut.
