(Torrington, CT)….The Torrington Area Parkinson’s Support Group will host its second annual “Walk in the Woods” for Parkinson’s research at White Memorial Conservation Center, Route 202 in Litchfield, CT on Sunday, September 7, 2014. Registration begins at noon, and the 0.5 to 2 mile walk steps off at 1:00 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation to fund Parkinson’s research and to assist local people affected by Parkinson’s. To register for the walk, or to make a donation, visit http://www.walkforpd.org.
The purposes of the walk are to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease, to help fund research to find a cure, and to provide an opportunity for people to socialize and enjoy some healthy and refreshing exercise at White Memorial Conservation Center.
Families may picnic on the grounds prior to registering. Demonstrations by the Forbes flyers, a fire truck, and antique cars will be on hand for all to enjoy. Educational material, fun activities for children, baked goods and ticketed drawings will also be available.
According to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, an estimated 5 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s Disease. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. Currently, there is no way to prevent or accurately predict who will develop Parkinson’s disease.
