(Torrington, CT) – The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Auxiliary is displaying the watercolors and paintings of artist Muriel Hosch through early March 2015 in the hospital’s main lobby hallway, 540 Litchfield Street, Torrington. The public is invited to view the works during regular visiting hours as part of the Auxiliary’s ongoing “Artist of the Month” program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Muriel Hosch was born in 1924 in New York City where developed her drawing skills, and sought out knowledge of artistic expression during her school years and beyond.
She married Paul Hosch, her high school sweetheart, in 1946. Paul and Muriel moved to Norfolk, CT, in 1961. There she joined the Litchfield County Art Association and took lessons from William Schultz and Mel Crawford. An avid gardener, she pressed and dried flowers and arranged them in antique picture frames. In 1971, she majored in art at the newly established Northwestern CT Community College. She graduated and continued her education at the University of Hartford Art School. She graduated with a degree in fine arts and elementary education. From 1977 to 1987 she taught art and Kindergarten at Town Hill School in Sharon, CT. After her retirement, she continued perfecting her watercolor skills, enjoying photography and also musical activities.
The Auxiliary’s “Artist of the Month” program has been featuring paintings, photographs, and artwork each month from local artists for over 25 years. Their over 200 member supporters assist in raising money for the hospital through dues, donations, volunteering at the gift shop, and a variety of events including an annual fall fashion show and luncheon.
Community members can also support the Auxiliary’s efforts by shopping at the Charlotte Gift Shop. From women’s apparel and accessories, including Alex and Ani designs and handbags, to children’s toys and books, the shop offers a wide variety of merchandise with a boutique style shopping experience in the newly-renovated storefront.
