(Torrington, CT) – The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Behavioral Health Department is pleased to announce the formation of a new Mother’s Wellness Group Therapy Program. The program will be held on Mondays for 8 consecutive weeks with the first session planned for Monday, March 9th, 2015.
The first of its kind in northwest CT, the program is designed for first year new mothers who may be having challenges coping with a role of being a new mom. Sometimes women have feelings that motherhood is different than they expected and experience symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. The group will discuss these issues, perinatal mood disorders beyond depression, and learn coping skills and mood symptoms.
“Sometimes there is an incredible feeling of being overwhelmed when becoming a new parent. We hope to break down possible stigma attached to post-partum feelings by reaching out to moms during this transitional time in a women’s life.” said CHH licensed Clinical Social Worker Amy Rodriguez.
The sessions will be held on Mondays, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. for eight consecutive weeks at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Center for Youth and Families, 50 Litchfield Street, Torrington. Babies are welcomed and encouraged to attend with mothers if desired. New sessions will be offered throughout the year.
Women who are interested in the program should call Amy Rodriguez at (860) 496-6359 to receive information on eligibility requirements and cost. The program is covered by most insurance carriers.
