FREE Talk at Geer Village on New CHH Low Vision Center

(Torrington, CT)  Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s (CHH) Occupational Therapy Department and Geer Village Independent and Assisted Living Senior Community will present a FREE Talk on the new Low Vision Service in Torrington. The hospital and the Lions Club District 23 recently established the service at the CHH Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Clinic at 1151 East Main Street, Torrington to provide support for individuals who experience low vision by assessing their sight limitations.

The free Talk will be held on Wednesday, May 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Geer Village, 77 South Canaan Road, in Canaan, CT. To R.S.V.P., please email Nancy Marshall at or call (860) 824-2625.

Attendees will learn about our new low vision service can help individuals with low vision by assessing their sight limitations and providing support to help them live more safely and independently.

Low Vision Center patients receive an assessment to determine their degree of vision loss, after which an individualized plan will be created with specific goals focused on providing assistance and improving their quality of life. These strategies are developed to help perform daily tasks, at times using tactile and talking products. Individuals are educated on availability of assistive technologies and learn to use their remaining vision effectively. In providing these services, individuals with low vision are able to live more safely and independently.

The cost of these services will be assumed by insurance providers and any other form of governmental or private reimbursement available as well as The Lions Club District 23.  The individual receiving the service will not be personally charged for any services that occur.
