CHH and Auxiliary Awards 18 Scholarships For 2015

(Torrington, CT)  Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s (CHH) Auxiliary and CHH’s Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Program awarded 18 local students scholarships to pursue higher education opportunities.

The CHH Auxiliary presented ten students pursuing an education in the healthcare field with $1,000 scholarships for 2015. Two additional scholarships, The Joseph Curi, M.D. Memorial Scholarship and The J. Alfred Fabro, M.D. Memorial Scholarship were also awarded.

The 2015 Auxiliary Scholarship Recipients are Brandy Blische, Jennifer Capello, Gabriella Finello, Shelby Howe, Stephanie Lamy, Abigail Martin, Nathan Patenaude, Rachel Seleman, Mary Traub, and Abigail Zeiner. In addition, Michael Ellis received The Joseph Curi, M.D. Memorial Scholarship and Nicholas LaMothe received of The J. Alfred Fabro, M.D. Memorial Scholarship.

Judith Hogan, Co-Chairman of the Scholarship Committee said, “The Auxiliary received more than 50 scholarship applications this year, all from exceptional students who intend to pursue healthcare careers. We regret that we were not able to present a scholarship to each student who applied. They are the caregivers of the future!”

In addition to the Auxiliary’s 12 awards, the CHH Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Program awarded its annual “Back In The Game” scholarships to six deserving athletes who were injured over the course of their high school athletic career, treated through the Hospital’s school-based Athletic Training program, and later returned to the play sport they love.

“Working with the schools’ Athletic Directors, it was our way of recognizing athletes that demonstrated exceptional drive and resilience in the face of adversity and personal injury in their respective sports programs, and recovered with determination and success.” said Amanda Hill, CHH Director of the Rehabilitation Services.

“Back In The Game” $250 scholarship recipients for 2015 were Mackenzie Andrews Griswald, Anthony Gonzalez, Taylor Howe, Thomas Korzynski, Mike Minucci, and Monica Swartley.
