(Torrington, CT) The Cancer Care Fund of the Litchfield Hills extends its gratitude to the team of business and community volunteers responsible for successfully organizing their Annual Butterfly Affair. This unique event took place on June 5th at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care, along the Joyce M. Barbieri Trail on Kennedy Drive in Torrington. Thanks to the hard working committee and generous donors, the event raised $45,000 with 100% donated to the Center for Cancer Care Fund, Inc. Primary event sponsors included the Alfano’s Torrington Honda and Nissan, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Yale/Smilow Cancer Care Center, Viron Rondo Osteria, Bacchi’s, Torrington Country Club, JW Salon and Valerie Manor Health Care Center.
One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of a check for almost $10,000, the result of a Memorial Day weekend fundraiser held at Lime Rock Park as part of the Glen Royals Garage car show, the most successful one to date.
Event founder and organizer, Jonathan Nevin comments, “This event provides an opportunity for the entire community to come together to raise awareness and funding for area cancer patients. It’s a chance to celebrate not only patients but those who have conquered the disease, while remembering those who have lost their courageous battle”.
A special part of the evening was the release of live butterflies. This significant and poignant portion of the night began with the reading of “On Wings of Hope” followed by a moment of silence and the release of the butterflies into the evening sky. Other features of the evening included live music provided courtesy of Steve Dunn and Kevin Wolfe of Accoustic Duo, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and beverages.
All proceeds from the Butterfly Affair have been donated to The Cancer Care Fund of the Litchfield Hills, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to patients for emergencies such as food, rent, transportation, utilities, prescriptions and other emergent needs as determined by clinicians and case managers. The Fund also provides numerous community resources to help with the care, treatment, education and prevention of cancer in the area.
