(Torrington, CT)….The Torrington Area Parkinson’s Support Group (TAPSG) will host its fourth annual “Walk in the Woods” for Parkinson’s research at White Memorial Conservation Center, Route 202 in Litchfield, CT on Sunday, September 20, 2015. Registration begins at noon, and the 0.5 to 2 mile walk steps off at 1:00 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) which helps fund Parkinson’s treatments and research. Proceeds from this walk will be used to support an exercise program with Charlotte Hungerford Hospital designed for area people affected by Parkinson’s.
TAPSG hopes to raise community awareness of Parkinson’s disease and to provide an opportunity for exercise, entertainment and fun outdoors on a Sunday afternoon at White Memorial Conservation Center. Families may picnic on the grounds prior to or after the walk. Local talent, educational materials, family activities, baked goods and ticketed drawings will be on-site along with the Forbes Flyers, Litchfield Fire Department, face-painting and a photo booth.
According to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, an estimated 5 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s Disease. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. Currently, there is no way to prevent or accurately predict who will develop Parkinson’s disease.
