CHH Offers New Evening Dual Diagnosis Program

(Torrington, CT) –The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s (CHH) Adult Co-Occurring (Dual Diagnosis) Intensive Outpatient Program designed to help people with both mental health and substance abuse issues is now being offered as an evening program to accommodate those whose schedules do not allow for participation in the day program.

The new evening program will be the same as the day program, but offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the CHH Partial Hospital building, 540 Litchfield Street, Torrington.

The program provides a confidential, highly structured, intensive intermediate level of care between inpatient and outpatient programs for adults, and offers comprehensive assessment of clinical needs, group therapy addressing relationship between mental health and substance use psychiatric evaluation and medication management, and case management and discharge planning.

The treatment philosophy is to develop individual plans for each member, treating mental health and substance abuse issues simultaneously. The focus of the programs is group therapy utilizing a variety of techniques including motivational enhancement, stages of change, drug screening, relapse prevention, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

The Co-Occurring Intensive Outpatient Program assists adults achieve many objectives during treatment which include assisting to decrease substance abuse and presenting psychiatric, behavioral, and emotional symptoms, and assisting program members in developing successful coping and stress management skills. The program may provide medication management if warranted, and helps members in recognizing and communicating feelings in constructive and recovery focused ways.

Most insurance is accepted including Medicaid, Medicare, Anthem, Cigna, Connecticare, and UBH.
