(Torrington, CT) – The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) Auxiliary is displaying the illustrations of Elizabeth Wolff through early November 2015 in the hospital’s main lobby hallway, 540 Litchfield Street, Torrington. The public is invited to view the works during regular visiting hours as part of the Auxiliary’s ongoing “Artist of the Month” program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
The artist’s love of stories and curiosity in art gave Elizabeth the idea to become an illustrator of children’s books. Her studies have been mostly self-taught, except for local classes and plenty of encouragement from teachers, her parents, relatives, and friends. Her art has been featured over the past five years in seven one women art shows and has been sold at the Yale Center for British Art and The Florence Griswold Museum. More recently, Elizabeth has taken two short courses in children’s book illustration and book binding at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Within the next year, she is hoping to finish a drawing for the New Britain Museum of American Art’s archive of their Connecticut Children’s book illustrators.
The Auxiliary’s “Artist of the Month” program has been featuring paintings, photographs, and artwork each month from local artists for over 25 years. Their over 200 member supporters assist in raising money for the hospital through dues, donations, volunteering at the gift shop, and a variety of events including an annual fall fashion show and luncheon.
