(Torrington, CT) – Women in northwest Connecticut who need to receive routine mammograms have access to the latest diagnostic digital technology available to them at three convenient Charlotte Hungerford Hospital outpatient locations.
CHH has added a second, state-of-the-art system, Selenia™ digital mammography unit at its Mammography center at Kennedy Drive in Torrington. The Center was the first healthcare provider in the Greater Torrington Region to feature the digital mammography which is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is acquired and, more importantly, viewed. The radiologist can magnify the images, increase or decrease the contrast and invert the black and white values while reading the images. These features allow the radiologist to evaluate microcalcifications and focus on areas of concern.
Digital Mammography is now available at three convenient locations including CHH Mammography Center, 200 Kennedy Drive, Torrington, Hungerford Emergency & Medical Care of Winsted, 115 Spencer Street, Winsted, and at the offices of Women’s Healthcare of New Milford, 120 Park Lane Rd #202, New Milford, CT.
CHH also provides the latest in “high tech, soft touch” mammography. The Center combines full-field digital mammography with a new breast cushion that dramatically eases the discomfort many women feel when they get a mammogram. By offering women a softer mammogram, the Center hopes to increase the number of area women who follow recommendations for regular screenings.
Selenia digital mammography offers a number of other practical advantages and patient conveniences. Because there is no waiting for film to be developed it can significantly reduce the time patients spend in the breast center, as well as reduce the need for repeat exams due to under or over exposure. Digital images are easily stored and transferred electronically, eliminating the dependency on one set of original films, which can be misfiled or lost in transit
CHH is a certified Pink Ribbon Facility; a distinction awarded only to an elite group of healthcare facilities, and is committed to the fight against breast cancer by offering the latest in imaging quality and comfort technology.
