CHH Center for Cancer Care Introduces New Support Groups

(Torrington, CT) – Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s (CHH) Center for Cancer Care is pleased to offer two new support groups available to cancer patients and caregivers beginning in January 2016. The two groups, the Patient Support Group and the Caregiver Support Group, offer those impacted by cancer emotional support and education. 

The Cancer Patient Support Group meets the first Monday of each month from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at 200 Kennedy Drive, Torrington in the first floor radiation consultation room. The support group is facilitated by Mary Strauss, LCSW. Light refreshments will be provided by The Cancer Care Fund of the Litchfield Hills, Inc. The cancer Caregiver Support Group meets on the third Wednesday each month from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 200 Kennedy Drive, Torrington in the first floor radiation consultation room. The support group is facilitated by Elizabeth Jucevics, LCSW. The group forum will allow participants to exchange advice on effective coping strategies and to develop a personalized self-care plan. Light refreshments will be provided by The Cancer Care Fund of the Litchfield Hills, Inc. For more information on this support group or to register, individuals may call 860-489-6718.

The series is supported by The Cancer Care Fund of the Litchfield Hills, Inc., which was created to assist and support cancer patients residing or receiving care in northwest Connecticut.  The fund supports care, treatment, education, prevention programs and offers financial assistance to patients with unexpected emergencies. 

The Center for Cancer Care is an affiliation of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and the Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center at Torrington. The Center offers comprehensive cancer care services including radiation therapy, medical oncology, chemotherapy and other complimentary therapies.
