(Torrington, CT) – The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) Auxiliary is featuring the pastel artwork of Connecticut native Jim Koplar now through early June 2016 in the hospital’s main lobby hallway, 540 Litchfield Street, Torrington. The public is invited to view and buy the works during regular visiting hours as part of the Auxiliary’s ongoing “Artist of the Month” program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Jim has been working in the arts for over 40 years, coming to specialize in pastels and painting. His work crosses many genres, including seascapes, still lifes, portraiture, and automotive subjects. They are included in many private and corporate collections.
“My gravitation toward the pastel medium was a result of needing a more immediate form of expression than was possible with oil paint. I appreciate the versatility of blending pastels and reworking the colors of the image to further the aspect that my work conveys. One-on-one teaching is an important part of Mr. Koplar’s artistic practice. He offers lessons in his Whiting Mills Studio in Winsted. Visit on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays or call 860-508-4630.
The Auxiliary’s “Artist of the Month” program has been featuring paintings, photographs, and artwork each month from local artists for over 25 years. Their over 200 member supporters assist in raising money for the hospital through dues, donations, volunteering at the gift shop, and a variety of events including an annual fall fashion show and luncheon.
