Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Diabetes Education Fund recently received a $750 donation from The Torrington Lions Club to help fund programs and new state-of-the-art glucose monitoring technology for its Diabetes patients.
Proclaiming their motto “we serve!” Torrington Lions Club President Norm Nejaime, Secretary Phil Dzurnak, and Membership Chair Elaine Dzurnak visited the center and presented a check of $750 to Dr. Egils Bogdanovics and Lois Pelletier, RN, CDE.
“We wish to thank the Torrington Lions Club for this generous gift and for assisting our efforts in bringing the very latest technology available to our Diabetes patients.” said Lois Pelletier, RN, CDE, the Program Coordinator at CHH Diabetes and Endocrinology.
Celebrating 100 years of service, Lions have come together since 1917 for the benefit of the community. Today, they have 1.4 million members in 210 countries. The Torrington Lions Club was formed in 1925, where local members have been bringing their own unique passion and abilities for the betterment of mankind. Their annual fundraisers and community outreach include an Annual Golf Tournament, Main Street Car Show and Holiday Gift Fair.
The Club’s 2017 Holiday Craft and Gift Fair will be held on November 4th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Torrington Armory. The event will feature over 60 Vendors, demonstrations on craft-making, health tips, products, penny auction, picnic style food, a 50/50 cash raffle and much more. Free admission and parking. Lions Club International (LCI) established a Diabetes Awareness Program to assist local Lions Clubs in conducting and supporting local and large-scale efforts leading to the control and treatment of diabetes and its complications through education, prevention, and research. Lions have worked with community healthcare organizations to provide diabetes screenings, educational programs and funding, camps, and other assistance to people with diabetes.
Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Diabetes and Endocrinology practice is part of the hospital’s Multi-Specialty Group and is headed Dr. Egils Bogdanovics and located just up the hill from the CHH main hospital buildings.
