Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) is offering free individual skin cancer screenings on Thursday, June 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in its medical ambulatory area, second floor, CHH Main building, 540 Litchfield Street, Torrington. The screenings will be held by three medical practitioners by appointment only.
“The aim of the screenings is to increase awareness of skin cancer and melanoma, a type of cancer which when treated early, can be cured. If interested please register early as these checks are very popular and timeslots fill up very quickly.” Said Tammy Rouleau, RN, CNBN, Nurse Navigator at CHH.
According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. In fact, more skin cancers are diagnosed in the US each year than all other cancers combined. Skin cancer starts in the cells of the skin. The three main types of skin cancers are Basal cell skin cancers (basal cell carcinomas), Squamous cell skin cancers (squamous cell carcinomas), and Melanomas.
The free skin checks are by appointment only for adults and consist of a whole body scan. There will be handouts and refreshments. To register for the skin check, please call the CHH Early Detection line at 860-496-6513.
